Pharmacie de garde: what this map cannot tell you

The pharmacie de garde is the on-call rotation that keeps a few pharmacies open at night, on Fridays and on public holidays. It is what most people are searching for, and it is not on this map. The rotation is set week by week and wilaya by wilaya by the health directorates and the pharmacists' syndicates, and it is announced locally rather than published as open data. There is no national feed to read from, so nothing here can tell you which pharmacy is on duty tonight.

What the map does do is show you where the pharmacies are. Find the ones around you, then call ahead where a number is published: 146 of the 3,797 records mapped here carry one. For a medical emergency, call the national lines below rather than going looking for a pharmacy.

These national lines are free, answered around the clock and reachable everywhere in the country. Call them first: this map helps you find a facility, it does not dispatch help.

What each record holds

OpenStreetMap records a pharmacy as a point first and as details second, so most of these places are known by where they are rather than by what they are called. 2,461 carry a name and 1,336 carry none at all. Those are real, mapped pharmacies: they are searchable by location, not by name. 1,163 carry a street address and 146 a phone number.

Where the point sits is part of the record too: 3,509 pharmacies are placed on the pharmacy itself, a spot somebody surveyed, and are drawn as pins, while 288 sit on their commune's point rather than their own address and are drawn as dots, so a dot marks the town and not the door.

257 publish opening hours, and those are the only ones that can show an Open now badge when you open them. No badge means the hours have never been mapped. It never means the pharmacy is closed.

How complete is this map?

This is a community map, not an official registry: 3,797 pharmacies are mapped against an estimated 11,000 officines nationally, about 35%. There is no open official register of officines to count against, so that denominator is an order of magnitude rather than a census. This extract dates from Aug 8, 2026.

Coverage is uneven and denser in the north. 2 wilayas have nothing mapped yet: In Guezzam, El Aricha. If a pharmacy you know is missing, adding it on openstreetmap.org adds it here at the next refresh.
